Welcome to the HM Submarine E22 Online Memorial
Not long before midday on 26th April 1916, whilst on surface manouevres off the coast of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, Royal Navy Submarine E22 was hit by a torpedo fired by UB-18, a German U-Boat .
E22 sank, taking 31 of the 33 crew members aboard her to the bottom. The two surviving members were taken prisoner by the German U-Boat and become Prisoners of War.
On this site I hope to detail some of the backgrounds of each of the crew as well as information on where each crew member is commemorated. I also hope to have photos of E22 as well as the crew, with relatives permission, so they are all remembered and recognised for years to come.
I will now be trying to compile information on each crew member and will be happy to share anything I find with family members.
We will remember them.
